History & Origin
Where does this symbol come from?
Tibetan monks create sand mandalas, then sweep them away once finished, as a sign of impermanence. In the 20th century, Carl Jung drew mandalas and had his patients draw them: he saw in them an image of inner wholeness, what he called the Self.
